Alternative energy is the way to go for the future

What are Australians doing? They are using up all of our non-renewable resources and aren’t thinking hard enough about changing. It is PREPOSTEROUS! My reasons are, wind power is renewable and will never run out, hydropower uses water and we have too much of it, we have a huge amount of uranium and should use it, and last of all, solar is clean and natural.

My first point is that we should use wind power because it is very effective and will never run out. Everyone says wind turbines are ugly but they look a lot more enviro-friendly and way more attractive than a big stoby pole at the front of your house. In addition Hillary Clinton says “To truly transform our economy, protect our security, and save our planet from the ravages of climate change, we need to ultimately make clean, renewable energy the profitable kind of energy”.

Secondly hydropower runs on any source of water. Although about 70% of our world is made of ocean water, our world’s power source is still relying on burning coal which is running out fast! In addition, hydropower is natural and releases no harmful gases like the burning of coal. Hydropower also doesn’t take up land space which allows housing or important needs to be built.

Another reason is uranium is a clean energy source that we sell for a lot of money to other countries. Australia has a lot of uranium and we are not using it effectively and letting it go to waste. Also, nuclear power plants are amazingly efficient because they generate electricity with an efficiency of 80%! “If you compare that to the efficiency of and oil plant which has 38% efficiency or a gas plant which is 56%, it is astounding”, says Dennis Kucinich.

My next important point is that geothermal is clean and natural. Also, geothermal doesn’t take up much room which allows more housing to be built and it also doesn’t use any fossil fuels to work. Another reason is that after it is built it is free! In addition Ralph Nader says we need more incentives to quickly increase the use of renewable resources that will cut costs and reduce global warming.

Last of all solar power is a very effective energy. It is natural so it doesn’t destroy the environment and will insure no blackouts. As Tom Vislack says, “we are now running out of oil and gas, we must prepare quickly for a third change!’ Solar power also gives you credit instead of you spending money, so you and nature both win!

So why not change to alternative energy? We could keep burning coal and polluting the earth, or we could start now and save the earth. The burning of coal sends fumes into the air, but wind energy is natural, hydropower uses resources we have so much of, uranium is very efficient, geothermal doesn’t take up much room and Australia is a hot, sunny country so why not use it! So lets unit and make the world a better place.

Alternative Energy Is the Way to Go For Our Future!

I am absolutely outraged that Australians are not using more alternative energy sources when we have such a large variety in Australia. It is essential that we as Australians begin to utilise alternative energy types such as, solar power which will last for several billion more years, hydro power can get its energy from rain, nuclear power which is powered by uranium which Australia has a plentiful amount of, and we’re not even using it, geothermal power is so cheap to run, and wind won’t stop so why don’t we start building wind turbines to capture it!

My first and most important point is that research shows that more than ninety-five percent of Australian energy relies on non-renewable fossil fuels, such as coal or oil which means if we keep going like this for several more years, we’ll probably destroy our planet. Furthermore nobody’s doing anything about it! Solar power is the easiest and most popular type of alternative energy. It is also clean and natural. It ensures no black outs, it is renewable for about another four billion years, and fifteen minutes of the sun’s rays can power the whole world for a year. In addition five years after you buy solar power you don’t have to pay electricity bills.

Secondly wind power is captured efficiently. The wind won’t stop so we can use its energy to power our houses, it’s clean, it reduces greenhouse emissions, and there’s no burning of coal involved. All the articles about wind turbines causing illnesses are a load of rubbish! Scientists say there isn’t enough proof anyway.

My next argument is about hydro power. Nowadays there are many hydro electric power stations that provide one fifth of the world’s electricity. Hydro power can get its energy from rain, which we’ve had quite a lot of in the past few days, which means, if we used hydro power, we would have massive amounts of power. Besides that hydro power is also non-polluting and renewable.

My fourth point relates to nuclear power that is powered by uranium which Australia has a plentiful amount of that we’re not even using! It is used in many ways such as, in medical practise and to produce electricity. Nuclear power in medical practise is mainly used in x-rays, using
pulsed nuclear power and radioisotopes. Radioisotopes are artificially produced, which have a different number of neutrons in the nucleus, but the same number of protons and the same chemical properties. Many live for only minutes. Their existence is measured in “half-lives,” how long it takes for half of the isotope to disappear. To produce radioisotopes, a stable isotope is bombarded with fast neutrons that are produced in a nuclear reactor or a particle accelerator. Nuclear power is used all around the world. A single power plant can generate high amounts of electricity in a short amount of time.

My final argument is that geothermal power is clean and natural. Also, geothermal plants are cheap to build. Even better, once they are built, they are free! It doesn’t run on fossil fuels, it uses some of the energy it collects. As Jimmy Carter said, “Because we are running out of gas, coal and oil we must prepare quickly for a third change, to strict conservation and to use permanent renewable resources like geothermal power”.
The time to start using alternative energy has come!
Solar power can be used for about another 4 billion years. Wind power can be captured quickly for another few billion years. Hydro power gets most of its energy from rain. Australia has heaps of uranium that we are not using and geothermal power plants use some of the energy they collect to power the plants and reduce the reliability on fossil fuels.

So what have you done to increase the use of alternative energy?

Alternative energy is the way to go for the future
I believe that alterative energy is the way to go for our future. We have been living on non renewable energy for our whole lives. Our future lies in the hands of alternative so why don’t we use it? The reasons that we should change is that solar, wind, biomass and hydro power are all natural and wont damage the environment.

My first point is that solar power is environmentally and not only is it cheap but you wont have to pay any bills either. Solar power is a great idea because fifteen minutes of the sun can power your house for a whole year.

Wind power is also environmentally friendly. Wind farms will be in the middle of no where so they won’t be in anyone’s way. Wind power will not damage the o-zone layer like coal, petroleum and natural gas.

Also hydro power is good for the environment therefore it saves water and there is little pollution. It runs on water and there is plenty of that. 70% of the world is water so I don’t think we will run out.

My last point is that Biomass is organic material made from plants and animals. Biomass contains stored energy from the sun. Plants absorb the sun's energy in a process called photosynthesis. Biomass is environmentally friendly therefore it is Alternative energy recourse.

Now to my conclusion I am certain that we should use alternative energies like Biomass, hydro, wind and solar powers are all better than non renewable energy such as coal, petroleum and natural gas. By doing all of this we are doing well for the environment and will do well for all our children to come.

WE CAN DO IT!

Exposition:
Alternative Energy is the way for the future!!

I strongly believe that the world must switch to alternative natural sources of energy to ensure our environment is protected. Greenhouse gases which we use daily is polluting and destroying our world. What are we waiting for? The time to make a change is now, not tomorrow or, in 2020. We need to act now! Some of the topics I will be talking about in my exposition are fossil fuels which are destroying our planet, and other natural sources of energy which are healthier such as solar power, which is a powerful source of energy and, uranium of which we have a huge supply in Australia. In addition, wind which is a very reliable energy source and hydropower which is very clean
.
My first and most important point is that fossil fuels are the major source of energy in the world. Whilst it is a natural resource it produces greenhouse gases. It is also running out rapidly. Greenhouse gases pollute the environment and release many other poisonous gases which are released into the air which is destroying our atmosphere and the O-Zone layer. In fact, coal generates 67% of all greenhouse gases in the world. This is disgraceful. So why do we continue to use fossil fuels as our preferred natural source of energy. Even Barack Obama has said “We have known for decades that our survival depends on finding a new source of energy. Yet we import more oil today than ever”.

Secondly, we have so much sunshine. The sun generates so much energy yet we are not using enough of it by the use of installing solar panels. It is time that we start using solar power as a natural source of energy to ensure fossil fuel does not continue to destroy our environment. In fact, every 15 minutes the earth receives enough energy from the sun to power everything on our earth for a whole year. If the sun is this powerful, it doesn’t make sense why politicians don’t encourage Australian people to switch to solar power now, before our planet is wrecked by the destructive fossil fuels.

Another important natural source of energy is uranium. In Australia there is so much uranium I don’t understand why we don’t make good use of the uranium resources. Uranium is very clean and, natural to the environment. In France and Lithuania they rely on using a mammoth amount of approximately 90% of their energy from uranium. If it is good for these two massive countries, the use of uranium should be good enough for people in Australia. In addition, uranium generates radioisotopes that helps cure cancerous tumours and many other diseases.

My fourth point is in relation to wind power. Wind power is a very clean source of energy and is environmentally friendly. Wind power generates plenty of clean energy that can help keep our usage of fossil fuels down. On windy days, wind energy can produce more natural energy than any other natural energy source could. The more we use wind energy, the less chance that our world will be destroyed by greenhouse gases and global warming. Mike Rann, the Premier of South Australia has finally realised this and has made a good decision to create a power plant using solar and wind energy on the Eyre Peninsula, South Australia.

Finally, I would like to mention Hydropower. Hydropower is another very clean and natural source of energy which produces no greenhouse gases. The world has so much water, which includes fresh and salt water to make hydropower a very good source of energy. Hydropower is a good option as it can produce energy whenever it is needed. Within Australia, there is a hydropower system called the ‘Snowy Mountains Scheme’ which is located in Sydney and produces tons of energy.

In summary, I have explained that fossils fuels are dangerous because they produce greenhouse gases which are polluting the atmosphere. Instead of using fossil fuels I have suggested switching them to use other natural resources such as solar power, uranium, wind power and hydropower.

Solar power is a very good option because it can produce power throughout the world in 15 minutes; uranium can power big countries like France and Lithuania; wind power which is a good alternative as it is very efficient, especially on windy days when it produces lots of energy and, hydropower is very flexible and can produce more power when needed.

If we switch to these amazing natural sources of alternative energy, our world would become more safe and healthy and the O-Zone layer will not deteriorate. So the question remains – why don’t the people of Australia and the politicians start to use and encourage the use of these alternative energy sources today.

What

Live 8 was a concert that went around the world performing and raising money for people or countries that are in poverty and can’t pay to live a good life. It is a concert that has up to 1,000 performers performing on stage. The first to begin was held at the Makuhari Messe in Japan, with Rize being the first of all the Live 8 performers. Up to 3,000,000,000 people go to watch live 8 each year! Live 8 is a good chance to go out and enjoy yourself while raising money for poverty at the same time!

USA
Canada
Japan
South Africa

When

Live 8 concerts were on Saturday 2nd July at 8 different countries around the world. These countries are United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, United Sates of America, Canada, Japan and South Africa. The reason that they are only in these countries are because they are the most major countries in the world and have the biggest populations which allows more people to come and that means more money going to helping poverty. The Live 8 also concludes on the 6th of July

Why
Live 8 concerts were put on to raise money for people in poverty. They have estimated that they have raised $50,000,000,000 each year! Most of the money ends up going to Africa because 314,000,000 people are living on less than $1 a day! That is nearly twice as many as 1981 and the continent makes up 34 of 45 of the poorest countries in the world. It also makes up 24 of 32 countries with the lowest human development which is astounding!

How
Live 8 has made a massive impact on the world because there are now a lot less poor people living in the world and people are thinking more about helping. The performances are put on in 8 different countries and nearly everyone takes part in raising the money. Every country is pretty much joining together and making one big country to raise money for poor countries and this makes the world a better place. Two weeks ago 280 million Africans woke up for the first time in their lives without owing a penny to debt.
“These concerts are the start point for The Long Walk to Justice, the one way we can all make our voices heard in unison.
This is without doubt a moment in history where ordinary people can grasp the chance to achieve something truly monumental and demand from the 8 world leaders at G8 an end to poverty.
The G8 leaders have it within their power to alter history. They will only have the will to do so if tens of thousands of people show them that enough is enough.

By doubling aid, fully cancelling debt, and delivering trade justice for Africa, the G8 could change the future for millions of men, women and children", says Bob Geldof
